What are pseudonymous data?
Data that can ascertain your legitimacy without giving away your identity.
Does pseudonymous mean anonymous?
No. Pseudonymous information allows data to maintain its utility while reducing risk to threats. The GDPR defines pseudonymization as "the processing of personal data in such a way that the data can no longer be attributed to a specific data subject without the use of additional information." The main distinction is pseudonymous has the capability to reidentify a subject by using direct and indirect identifiers held in separate databases, whereas anonymous data cannot be reidentified. Pseudonymization is the future of data collection. Aerendir Biometrics in Your Hands® allows companies to collect relevant data from their consumers without advanced intrusion.
How can you ensure information collected is pseudonymous?
There are many ways to do this, some of which already exist. It is perfectly feasible to be uniquely recognized while concealing your identity.
For example, your bank may know your phone number or SIM card number when you are on its banking interface, however, there is no need for your device to beam up your valuable identity or any other personal information. This can be realized if your device can ascertain that you are its legitimate owner in a foolproof manner.
Such system requires two components. First, there must be a priori knowledge of ‘you’ somewhere (i.e. a web site, a secure server, …). Second, there must be a certainty that ‘you’ are the one holding the device. Then, what is exchanged (token or hash) needs to be protected against hacking by a standard, like the FIDO Protocol.
How can businesses improve consumer experience without user’s data?
One does not need to know where you live, what you do every Thursday morning, if you are a sport freak or a couch potato, to offer you the best quality product or service. Likewise, one does not need to know how you walk, how fast you walk; what your head, shoulder or hand position is to ensure you an optimal experience.
Without data ever transmitted across the Internet, personal encrypted profiles can be stored on your devices, and access is only allowed after your permission is granted. It’s all about a vendor asking a simple and relevant question instead of mass data harvesting.
Examples could be: your age, your gender, your country location without any further intrusion. Because it is encrypted by the user’s own body, no one can read and collect the data without the user decrypting the relevant part. The data’s owner can customize such encrypted personal information files. It is up to you to decide if you add your name, address, gender, or date of birth. The user is left with the final decision to grant access to their minimal set of information for any probing vendor.
Likewise, Aerendir Biometrics in Your Hands® — if embedded in the driver’s seat — can enable a car to 'know' that you are under influence and not able to drive without ever transmitting the data across the Internet. The information would stay local between the user and the car.
What are personal crypted files (PCF)?
It is a small file (or set of files) that the user can customize to his/her liking and encrypt using Aerendir’s technology. The presence of such a file is known by the system, but the legitimate user is the only person authorized to decrypt and share upon ‘polite’ request. This would allow users to leverage the value of their data, if any. The same can be applied to medically-relevant information like taking part in ethical clinical trials for example.
What are the use cases?
With this technology, age-restricted sales can be ascertained without the need for a (often fake) ID. When one is under the influence or not fully conscious, driving may not be a smart idea and our technology will be able to detect that relevant information. PCF can allow for selective and user-controlled release of personal information.
While we are developing these capabilities, other safety questions may arise.

A consumer-controlled method for data collection. With privacy in mind, consumers can reveal information in a non-intrusive way. We offer these competitive advantages...
- Remain Compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Collect relevant data without revealing Personally Identifiable Information.
- Ethical data collection can change the big data industry for the better by providing relevant answers to appropriate questions without mass data harvesting. We use physiology to determine age or gender without giving away a user's identity.
- Cost-effectiveness is important to us. Our solution can function using sensors present in today's mobile devices.
- Ease of Integration without compromising performance. We can port this technology at various levels of integration, from binaries to ASICs/SoCs.
